Transferability and Redenomination Public Notice

Token transferability will be enabled today, exactly at block number 1,205,128. This will occur at approximately 16:40 UTC, though it is impossible to exactly calculate this time. This will not change the denomination of DOT (old) which still represents 10**12 Planck.

Denomination Day: Ecosystem Project Guidance

On August 21st at approximately 13:15 UTC (block number 1,248,328), the DOT token will undergo a redenomination from its original sale. ‘New DOT’ will be 100x smaller than ‘DOT (old)’.

With a turnout just shy of one third of the tokens, the recent Polkadot redenomination poll was a major result for stakeholder decision-making. This number is all the more impressive considering that both the Web3 Foundation and Parity Technologies abstained from the voting.

The First Polkadot Vote…

A vote has been started that will alter the course of Polkadot and define the final denomination of its native DOT token. It affects all Polkadot stakeholders. If you have claimed your DOT on the mainnet, or you plan to, then you can — and should! — vote.

Results of DOT Redenomination Referendum

A referendum was just held on Kusama regarding whether or not to redenominate DOTs on Polkadot in a 1:100 ratio. Web3 Foundation used this referendum to gauge sentiment from the community before the launch of Polkadot.
