Frequency integrates KILT to build universal, unstoppable identities

BOTLabs GmbH, developer of KILT Protocol, today announced the Frequency blockchain will integrate KILT’s portable, censorship-resistant identity infrastructure for users of decentralized social networks. Appearing onstage at Consensus by CoinDesk, Harry Evans, CTO of Amplica Labs (the team that was the initial technical contributor to Frequency) and Ingo Rübe, Founder of KILT shared their vision of how a universal social graph and digital identity innovations will deliver Web3 utility to the everyday Internet user.

Frequency delivers essential tooling to enable decentralized social networking at massive scale. KILT is an identity blockchain for generating decentralized identifiers (DIDs), or digital fingerprints, a core element of digital identity. KILT brings the traditional process of trust in real-world credentials, like a passport or driver’s license, to the digital world.

Frequency and KILT share a common mission of restoring control of personal data to the individual. Centralized social networking platforms have evolved into identity providers by offering convenient logins across multiple online services, making it difficult for users to understand which personal data was shared between the social network and third parties.

The advent of Web3 technologies enables people-centric social networking apps that give consumers more control over their data. The Frequency blockchain uses a lightweight “Social Identity” to make it possible for users to be discovered, connect and interact with others on a shared public social network, and a user to leverage their own network of personal connections across apps.

This Social Identity will be connected to KILT’s Decentralized Identity Provider (DIP), a new Web3 authentication framework users can bring the full functionality of KILT’s solution into their decentralized social experience. Users decide which elements of their identity are exposed, to which audience. With KILT the user owns and controls their data; no company or entity can shut off their access or delete their data.

“For decentralized social to achieve mass adoption, we need new, interoperable social primitives. This work demonstrates how projects can come together to deliver more value to users and fuel a healthier web,” said Harry Evans, CTO of Amplica Labs.

“Centralized online services and data-hungry social networks have been the only identity providers available to consumers — until now”, said Ingo Rübe, Founder of KILT Protocol and CEO of BOTLabs GmbH. “The integration with Frequency will accelerate consumer demand for decentralized identity providers, making KILT’s framework more critical for new verticals within the Polkadot ecosystem and beyond.”

Frequency and KILT are part of the Polkadot ecosystem, a network of specialized, interoperable blockchains. In a new use case for Polkadot’s innovative Cross-Consensus Message Format (XCM), authentication with KILT DIDs will be enabled on Frequency via XCM between the parachains.

This work is currently in development. Once complete, KILT and Frequency will be testing integration and features on Rococo before deployment to the production parachains.

About Frequency
Frequency is a Layer 1 blockchain optimized for high-volume use cases that makes it possible for builders to deliver decentralized social applications at massive scale. Blockchains typically have volatile, high transaction costs that become prohibitively expensive at the frequency required for social networking. Frequency solves this problem with a revolutionary pricing model in which builders reserve replenishing transaction capacity at a predictable, low cost.

Frequency is designed to support the scaling of the Social Web, an evolution of the internet in which core social networking functionality is integrated within the web itself. The Decentralized Social Networking Protocol (DSNP), released by international nonprofit Project Liberty in 2021, is a new open source project that is designed to be a foundational element of the Social Web. By connecting to DSNP over Frequency, applications can cost-effectively deliver Web3 features to large, established user bases while tapping into the compounding network effects of the universal, shared social graph enabled by DSNP.

About KILT Protocol
KILT is an identity blockchain for generating decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and verifiable credentials, providing secure, practical identity solutions for enterprise and consumers. KILT brings the traditional process of trust in real-world credentials (passport, driver’s license) to the digital world, while keeping data private and in possession of its owner.
